Tips and information about Australia

AUSTRALIA  comprises an area of some 8 million square kilometres;  it is a country of extremes and almost all of it is accessible by rental motorhome, camper, 4wd, car or motorbike.  Exploring Australia by motor vehicle provides you with the chance to venture into remote areas, tropical rain forests  as well as inland deserts.   You will find an abundance of plant and tree species as well as an enormous diversity of bird- and other animal species (marsupials!) that are unique to Australia.   Visit large cosmopolitan cities like Melbourne, Sydney and Perth but also tiny Outback settlements.    Australia and its easygoing friendly people welcome you to a true adventure that you will never forget!

It may be wise to be informed about using the toll roads around Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before you step on the plane heading for Australia.  Toll roads in Australia are easy to use and save lots of time to travel through or around these large cities.  But there are not toll booths and it is your responsibility to pay the tolls within 3 days by phone and your credit card.  Failing to do so will result in hefty fines which are easy to avoid.  Read more about Toll Roads:  Australian Toll Roads

Are you traveling with one of our 4×4 vehicles and need a Permit to travel through Aboriginal land?  Visit the very handy ‘one stop shop’:  the ExplorOz website (click).

The following Australian government website provides useful information on traffic and road rules Downunder: http://www.ntc.gov.au/roads/rules-compliance/

The following link is also a ‘Must Read’ and tells you all you should know before you venture into Australia’s many remote area’s with your rented 4wd vehicle:  remoteareatravelinformation.

You probably know the Australian national carrier Qantas.  To give you a bit of a taste of typical Aussie humor, you should read the following,  taken from feedback-correspondence between Pilots and Technical ground staff:  “Having a laugh”
